Madonna 'disappointed' with birthday celebrations
Madonna was left disappointed after her 50th birthday celebrations on Saturday (16Aug08) when several of her guests failed to turn up.
The Holiday hitmaker hosted a lavish party at the exclusive Volstead nightclub in London's West End.
It was attended by many of the star's family and friends - but Madonna was allegedly upset about the no-shows.
She reportedly told guests, "I'm really disappointed.
"There are a lot of people who are not here tonight, but thanks to everyone who did make it."
The singer's daughter, Lourdes, played a song from hit musical Fame on a grand piano at the club and husband Guy Ritchie presented the pop star with $500,000 worth of jewellery.
Lopez will 'crawl across the finish line'
Jennifer Lopez is so determined to complete her triathlon competition later this year (08), she has vowed to "crawl across the finish line".
The actress/singer set herself the goal in a bid to get back into shape after giving birth to babies Emme and Max in February (08).
And although she admits she is concerned about finishing the race, she insists her fear of disappointing others will keep her going through the running, swimming and cycling endurance event.
Lopez says, "It's really tiring and like spending time with the babies... it's really challenging.
"But if I have to crawl across that finish line, I'm going to crawl across that finish line. It's for the kids. I keep telling myself that when I'm training, I'm like, 'This is for charity, your kids are going to know about this. Don't embarrass the family. Really get it done, Lopez'."
McConaughey urges protestors to see Tropic Thunder
Matthew McConaughey has defended controversial new movie Tropic Thunder against disability advocate groups, who claim the comedy is irresponsible.
The actor, who has a cameo in the Ben Stiller film, was stunned to find protestors at the movie's Los Angeles premiere last week (ends15Aug08).
They were there protesting the use of the word 'retard' in the film and one scene, in which Stiller and co-star Robert Downey Jr.s' characters poke fun at the mentally disabled.
But McConaughey insists those who fear the film sends the wrong message should at least see the movie, which debuted at number one on Sunday (17Aug08).
Writing on his MySpace.com blog, the Sahara star says: "If you see it, I think you'll agree that all the touchy humor is in context, and in no way mean spirited or irresponsible."

Mariah Carey is convinced new husband Nick Cannon is her soulmate - because he reminds her of her mother.
The singer explains Cannon can make a bad situation good because he has such an upbeat attitude - just like her own mum.
She says, "When I was a kid there was an ice storm in the suburbsÂ… We went to Manhattan to stay with a friend of my mom's. There was nobody on the road. It was this moment that could've been scary for a kid, but she made it festive.
"That's what Nick is like. He takes the hard part of a situation and makes it celebratory."
Carey and Cannon wed in May (08) after a whirlwind courtship.

She tells breakfast show Good Morning America, "I'm clear. Absolutely 100 per cent clear and clean. ... They got everything out so I'm definitely not going to die from breast cancer."
Applegate admits she was shaken after first learning she was ill.
She adds, "I was so mad and I just remember I was just shaking.
"And then also immediately, I had to go into 'take-care-of-business-mode,' which was, I asked them, 'What do I do now? What is it that I do? I get a doctor, I get a surgeon, I get an oncologist? What do I do?'"

And Osbourne understands why her mother could no longer work with the British music svengali.
She says, "I don't know how he gets his head through the holes in his T-shirts because they're really tight.
"You don't have enough money, in this world, to pay me to work with Simon Cowell."
Osbourne admitted she almost boycotted the X Factor, but changed her mind after learning Cheryl Cole had replaced rock matriarch Sharon.
She adds, "Seriously, I'm the biggest Girls Aloud fan, and that's the only reason why I'd ever watch it again."
